Minutes of the Special Meeting of the Riverside Park Neighborhood
Association
December 6, 2006
Terri Kinis called
the meeting to order at 6:00 PM
Guest speaker was Ray Robakowski, new community liaison
officer of the Milwaukee Police 5th District, to talk about crime
and the Block Watch program
He presented a brief overview of crime in the neighborhood,
as logged on maps. In November there were 6 thefts, 2 auto thefts, 3 burglaries,
2 robberies (on Oakland), and 1 assault. And he presented a brief overview of the Block
Watch program, which calls for monthly meetings, designed to raised alertness.
Questions included: 1) whether it=s
OK to call him very often: it is. 2) whether it=s
OK to detain an offender: it is. 3) what to look for as a witness. 4) whether
to include students: yes, they walk the neighborhood a lot, and have concerns
about crime. 5) what to do about high school students= cars
and associated littering: MPS pays officers for overtime beginning at 3:30,
and witnesses should take offending license numbers and call the police.
6)Block Watch signs: the aim should be to have one in every house. 7)concern
about police response time.
The next meeting will be at 6:30 PM. Kay Baldwin (Murray Hill) and Else Ankel (Cambridge
Woods) will be speakers. (Both neighborhoods
have strong Block Watch programs.) The Block Watch segment of that meeting will
take place from 7:30-8:00
Respectfully submitted,
Joan Moore
