3/27–RSPNA
Minutes
Riverside Park Neighborhood Association
March 27, 2007
The meeting was called to order at 6:30, Terri Kinis presiding.
There was a brief report on several items regarding crime:
the man committing four robberies was arrested, and a drug house was shut
down. There were mixed reports on the alleged rape.
Officer Robakowski will be available
on (Tuesday, April 3) WEDNESDAY APRIL 11th for a meeting about establishing
a Block Watch. Concerns were expressed
about the attitude of police officers toward residents, and there was also
concern that there has been no response to requests for more squads in the
area.
An Earth Day neighborhood cleanup is planned, focusing
on alleys (April 21st, 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM). City dumpsters will be requested for the student
exodus after the end of the semester.
The main speaker for the evening was Gail Overholt, an educator with UW Cooperative Extension, with
a power point presentation about what can be done to diminish storm water
runoff. The focus was on disconnecting
downspouts from roofs and establishing rain gardens that soak up water from
downpours. Dramatic reduction in
runoff is provided by rain gardens, but all efforts to increase the permeability
of the soil offer some advantage, including aeration, trenching, and plants
with deep root systems. Gail provided
information about resources, and offered her services and those of master
gardeners to RSPNA.
The meeting adjourned at 8 PM.
Respectfully submitted
