RSPNA
February
27, 2007
The meeting was called to order at 6:45, first for a presentation
by Peter Godfrey about the need for input on the North East Side plan, and
second for a presentation by Janet Grau.
First issue:
Peter=s
concern is that a number of groups are developing ideas that affect the
Riverside Park neighborhood (notably the Hometown and RC sites) and that
these groups have not informed or dealt with the RSPNA. He urged that a committee be formed to deal
with these issues, and that a paperboard factory representative (large land
ownders) be invited to help develop bullet points for the North East Side
study to consider.
He argued that it is important to be proactive, as Brady
Street and Cambridge Woods have done. Several
groups are working to preserve the River valley, with two blocks on either
side, as an environmental corridor. For
the Hometown site, housing of some sort is being plannedBprobably student housing.
The committee will meet on Tuesday, March 6, at 6:30 PM,
at the Urban Ecology Center. All
are invited: Dzidra Benish, Joan Moore and Ken Leinbach volunteered.
Second issue:
Janet Grau presented the North East Side Area Plan Image
Preference Survey, which called upon members to rate images (e.g. housing
types, institutional architecture) representing various dimensions of urban
space B e.g. residence,
commercial, industrial, institutional, and open and park space. It was noted that the Riverside Park neighborhood
has spaces in each category.
The meeting was adjourned at 8:15
Respectfully submitted,
Joan Moore
